The Chernihiv Regional Philharmonic was established in 1944.
The Philharmonic received a stationary room with a capacity of 612 seats in 1964. It is the former home of the Mykolaiv Diocesan Brotherhood. The complex includes a chapel, which was built in 1870 to honor Alexander Nevsky.
The building was burned down in August 1941 during the Nazi bombing and rebuilt in the postwar years with a third floor superstructure above the former chapel. It is a good example of neo-Russian architecture dating back to the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
During the existence of the Philharmonic, classical music and folklore were constantly heard, various genres were performed, lectures and work with children continued. In 2000, the Regional Philharmonic Center was established on the basis of the Philharmonic, the choir named after Dmitry Bortniansky, the brass band and the folk music ensemble "Harmonica". Today the Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, the Dmitry Bortniansky Chamber Choir, the Academic Folk Choir, the Seversky Kleynody Song and Dance Ensemble, the Ostap Veresay Bandur Choir, the Brass Band and the Concert Performers work here.
