This elegant building, decorated with marvelous wooden carving, belonged to a Jewish merchant Z. Hosenpud. He owned a grinding mill and some fur shops.

At the beginning of the XX century, the merchant migrated to America. Before leaving, he presented his house to Chernihiv Nobility Assembly for placement of the asylum for orphans and disadvantaged children.

After closing of an asylum in the 30s, the house was used as residential accommodation of a distillery up to 1988. At present, it is an office of a fitness and sports society “Ukraine”. Unfortunately, the non-governmental organization is unable to maintain such a big building and is in constant need of funding to pay for utilities and repair works. In spite of financial issues, since 2018, the house has undergone some renovation works. Its old windows have been replaced with new ones, the foundation has been put in order and the walls have been painted.
