Nowadays, this house is home to the Regional Youth Library, however, at the beginning of the previous century it was occupied by the Chernihiv District Police Department.

As of 1908 the house belonged to Yevdokiya Svechina. Although there’s no information about this person, it is certain that she was quite rich, given the size and the gorgeous exterior design of the house.

Since 1910 the building was owned by cossack Ivan Svidersky, who rented out a part of the house to the police department. The owner allocated for tenants a four-room wing connected with the wooden residential house, two rooms in the house, a barn and a woodshed. To ensure the autonomous functioning of the policemen the house was rebuilt: the furnaces were redone so that they can be fired up from the premises of the tenants, the entrances that led from the rented part of the premises to the main building were filled in.

Today, the house is a prominent example of modernist architecture and is protected by the state as a monument of local significance.
