It is located near the city park of culture and rest. Museum was established in 1985. Main collection counts exhibits from different periods of time. The main parts of those exhibits characterize Chernihiv's participation in the Second World War, both types as on the fronts and in the guerrilla groups. In addition to that there are exhibits of the period of Chernihiv defense in 1941, its liberation from the German invaders, also it tells us about the fate of Ostarbeiters and prisoners of camps, about the participation of our countrymen in the so-called local armed conflicts in Korea, Vietnam, Egypt, Afghanistan, etc .  Also there is some information about the formation of the Armed Forces of independent Ukraine, their participation in international peacekeeping operations under the auspices of the UN; on the elimination of the Chernobyl accident and its consequences. There you can find documents, photos, weapons, awards, military equipment, and some personal stuff, working tools, which was used by different types of troops, also there are books, paintings and graphical works.  In total there are nearly eleven thousands of exhibits. 
The museum is divided into 3 sectors (3 floors), the first focused on ancient archeological finds and the Second World War, on the second floor exposition is continued, the third floor is devoted not only to military operations, but also to some achievements in space. 
According to the staff, visitors are mostly interested in the expositions of weapons of different eras, letters from the front and from the German captivity, the camera of a photojournalist from the newspaper "For Our Victory" by Andronova, crushed by a shards; awards of Korotkov, commander of a regional guerrilla unit; materials twice by the Hero of the Soviet Union, a long-range aviation pilot bombed in August 1941 by Berlin Molodchy, Vlasenko - an UN peacekeeper who died near Sarajevo and so on.
