Composition “Two Goats”
The sculptural composition "Two Goats" and the fountain were opened in 2021. It illustrates the tale of Ukrainian writer Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi about two goats stand on temporary bridge across a stream. The fountain was installed on the site of an earlier one of the 1930s. In 1964, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the writer's birth, a cement sculptural composition with two goats was installed on the existing fountain, which later collapsed. However, during the reconstruction of the lower part of Val (rampart) in 2019-2021, it was decided to restore the fountain with goats on the old place.
"So, a white goat goes to the river from one bank, and a black goat comes from the other bank. And both want to cross the river. But the bridge is so narrow that only one can cross it.
The white goat did not want to wait for the black to cross the bridge, and the black did not want to wait for the white to cross.
They stepped on the bridge, came together in the middle and beat each other with their foreheads and horns! They fought, fought, and it ended up that both of them fell into the water and drowned. ", - Source: Kotsiubynskyi M. About two goats / M. Kotsiubynskyi // October. - 1938. - № 11. - P. 14.
