The former gymnasium for girls is located on the territory of the ancient Val (the Rampart). H.P. Galagan Chernihiv Regional Art Museum is housed in the gymnasium now.
In 1899, the gymnasium for girls got the new two-storey building which was constructed on the territory of former fortress. It is interesting to know that originally the main facade was from the opposite side. The wide staircase with banisters led to the massive front door. Now, this part of the building is in the inner yard of the museum.

Today, the Art Museum has about 8,000 works of art. There is a collection of Western European paintings, including works by Italian, Dutch and Flemish artists. The adornment is a canvas "Concert" by the Dutch artist Terrbruggen, dated 1626.

In addition to exhibitions, there are several creative projects. Living Cabinet platform is a place for communication between present and future artists of all ages. Here they create books, applications and even architectural projects with their own hands.
