Liubetska Gate was located in the northwestern part of the Chernihiv Fortress. It got its name from the fact that one of the oldest streets of Chernihiv - Liubetska, which grew into the Chernihiv-Liubech road outside the city, started right next to it. The gate was under a two-story battle tower. The gate through the moat could be reached via a wooden bridge. In the seventeenth century. in front of the gate was arranged a small earthen redan. The development of siege artillery led to the fact that wooden towers and walls ceased to be a reliable protection of the Chernihiv fortress, so in the 1730s the wooden tower was dismantled, and in its place was filled a large earthen bastion with two gates - external and internal. Already at the end of the existence of the Chernihiv Fortress, in the 1780s, the Liubetsky Gate was liquidated, and a new Catherine's Gate was built next to it.
