Until the XIX century Chernihiv gardens were located on the site of Maryin Grove. However, in 1891 the city council decided to create a park area here by planting trees. In 1893, a new grove was planted in front of Maryin Grove on the left bank of the Stryzhen River. Currently, the park area is preserved only on the left bank of the Stryzhen River. In 1972, one of the oldest oak groves received the status of a botanical monument of nature.
