Nearby from the city center, between the medium-sized green mounds on Boldyn Hills the grave of Ukrainian writer Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi is located. The writer moved to Chernihiv in 1898 and lived here for fifteen years. The Boldyn Hills was a favorite walking place for Mikhailo Kotsiubynskyi.

At first, the grave of the great writer had a rather modest, even neglected appearance. Among the thick shrubs was a simple wooden cross. Later, in 1930, a gray granite monument was erected on the writer's tomb, shaped like a pyramid of four square blocks.

In 1954, in honor of the 90th anniversary of Kotsiubynskyi, it was decided to replace the monument. In 1955, a new monument was created.  It consists of bronze bust of the writer on a rectangular pedestal.
One of the sculptors was the grandson of the writer Florian Kotsiubynskyi. A granite slab with a fence is laid out around the monument. Next to Mikhailo Kotsiubynskyi, his wife Vira is buried.
