Living in the 21st century, we do not often recall heroes of the distant past. This commemorative sign informs that a soldier and commander, colonel and Hetman of The Left Bank of Ukraine, Stepan Podobailo, were buried in the territory of the Elijah Monastery in 1654.
He was a companion of Bohdan Khmelnytsky and he participated in Ukrainian liberation war and in many others battles. In 1649 Stepan Podobailo rebuilt the Trinity-Elijah Monastery in Chernihiv.
