It is one of the youngest monuments in the city. It is dedicated to one of the oldest figures in Chernihiv history.

The monument is located on the territory of Dytynets (Rampart), an ancient part of the city, which was formed just in princely times between the two cathedrals. Who is Igor and why did the sculptor depict the prince not with the sword but with the Christian volume in his hand?

Prince Igor was the son of Chernihiv Prince Oleh Sviatoslavovych. In 1146 Ihor took the throne in Kiev, but for some year he was killed by people of Kiev, seems like as a revenge for his relatives. Later, according to a legend, miracles of healing began to occur at the burial of Igor and people realized that they had killed an innocent person.

Igor's relicts were transported to Chernihiv. They are stored in the Transfiguration Cathedral. The icon that Ihor prayed for is one of the most important shrines of the Lavra in Kiev.
