The square is located in the city center, behind the Drama Theater and the Piatnytska Church; it was built in the late twelfth century.

In the middle of the square is a Bohdan Khmelnytskyi monument. For a long time the monument looked to the east, but recently it was turned to the west, because that is how his authors intended from the beginning.

There is a story that, at the time of the erection of the monument, the architect Petro Baranovskyi was restoring the Piatnytska Church. The man was asked which way is better to turn Khmelnytskyi monument to. The architect advised to put Khmelnytskyi on the wheels and deployed if it is necessary.

Also in the park there are several fountains that pleased passers-by with bright lights in summer and winter.
