The first information about the existence of the shopping arcade in Chernihiv dates back to the beginning of the XVIII century. These were closed and open wooden storefront stretching from the city gates along the Liubetska Street. However, in the early nineteenth century shopping arcades were demolished and new brick and wooden shopping arcades and storefronts were built on the territory of the modern Krasna Square designed by Anton Kartashevskyi.
During the XIX century they have been restored and rebuilt several times. The premises of the shopping arcades simultaneously contained both trade places and warehouses with deep basements. In this form, they existed until the early 1930's, and in their place paving brick was laid.
