In 1893 a school for blind children was opened in Chernihiv on the corner of Vozdvyzhenska and Sviatoslavska streets. In one of its premises in 1897 the house church of St. Alexandra of Rome was consecrated. Probable homeless shelter was located here before the church of Mary Magdalene was housed in the building. The house was decorated with wood carvings, some of which have survived to our days. Also to our days the flood lined with metal tiles made in Kharkiv is still preserved in the premises of the former church.
