Disappeared suburban churches

The first Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross was wooden. It was located on the territory of Outer City (Okolnyi Grad), near the city gates, church was built in the second half of the XVII century. In the middle of the XVIII century the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross began to declined, it was dismantled, and in its place in 1759 a new one was built. The peculiarity of the new church was that its first floor was made of brick, and the second with its tops was made of wood. This cult building lasted until the XIX century, when a new brick church of the same name was built in its place, which fell into decadence during the Second World War and was finally dismantled after 1944.

The first St. Nicholas (Mykolaivska) Church was built near the Pohorili Gate of the Chernihiv fortress in the second half of the XVII century. It was wooden, five-part and five-storey building. At the begging of the XVIII century the building of St. Nicholas (Mykolaivska) church was noted as «decrepit». Hence, in 1732 a new church was built on its place, it was also wooden, so it lasted until the XIX century, after it was also dismantled. In its place a residential building appeared there, it is preserved to nowadays.

Epiphany wooden church was located on the Honcha Street from the XVIII century.

The documents contain information that in the 1730s and 1740s the church building was listed as old and gradually declined, in 1742 a new wooden church was built instead of the old wooden one. The church existed until the XIX century, and then it was disassembled.

Second St. Nicholas (Mykolaivska) Church was erected in the middle of XIX century on the place of Epiphany church. It was damaged during the Second World War and demolished during 1944–1946.
